Narendra Modi

Narendra Modi is the 15th and current Prime Minister of India. He is a former Chief Minister of the Gujarat, India. Modi is a politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He has led the party to victory in the Gujarat legislative Assembly elections thrice.

On May 25, 2014 Narendra Modi took oath as the 15th Prime Minister of India.

Personal Biography

Narendra Modi's mother is Heeraben Modi.

On May 15, 2016, Narendra Modi tweeted a picture of him spending quality time with his mother Heeraben Modi at his Prime Minister's residence of 7 Race Course Road. It was Heeraben's first visit to his official residence.

In October 2009, he is down with Swine Flu soon after returning back home after a visit to Russia.

Professional Biography

As Chief Minister of Gujarat

Modi became Gujarat’s Chief Minister for the first time in October 2001 after his predecessor Keshubhai Patel resigned defeat of the BJP in by-elections. He got re-elected in December 2002 when he became the CM for the second time. Modi took oath as the Gujarat Chief Minister for the third consecutive time on December 25, 2007. He defeated Dinsha Patel from Maninagar Assembly constituency by 87,000 votes.

After failing to get the Compulsory Voting Bill stamped by Gujarat Governor Dr. Kamla Beniwal, the Narendra Modi-led State Government, in April 2010 has decided to reintroduce the bill in the Assembly.

Modi slammed the central government for failing to tackle the Maoist violence.

In June 2010, he inaugurated the manufacturing plant of Nano at Sanand, a city and municipality in Ahmedabad district.

Mumbai terrorist activities - November 2008

Narendra Modi visited Mumbai during the November Mumbai terrorist attacks. He lashed out at the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government. He announced 10 million rupees aid to the Maharashtra government to be distributed as compensation to the families of the deceased.

He also visited the house of Hemant Karkare, chief of the Mumbai’s Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) who died in the operation.

In April 09, Modi accused the Congress of displaying helplessness on security issues whenever in power.

2014 Elections

Calling the general election as the biggest festival of democracy, Modi requested citizens to vote for India. He welcomed 10 crore new voters and urged them to play an important role in strengthening and continuing democratic tradition of India.
