Nara Chandrababu Naidu

Nara Chandrababu Naidu is the President of Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh. He is the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh after TDP and BJP alliance won 106 of the 175 Assembly constituencies in the 2014 elections.

Chandrababu Naidu served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1995 till 2004 and has been the leader of opposition till 2014. He also owns Heritage Foods. Chandrababu holds the record as the longest serving Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Personal Life

Nara Lokesh is his son. In March / April 2017, Lokesh became an MLC, was inducted into the State Government Cabinet and later made Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, IT & Communications in quick succession. Some sections of the media felt that there was a role played by Chandrababu Naidu's daughter-in-law Nara Brahmani behind the quick move.

Honorary Doctorate

On 17 December 2015, Chicago State University has selected Chandrababu Naidu for bestowing award of 'doctorate of Humane Letters' on him. The University which is one of the oldest in the United States has also requested him to deliver a special address emulating his vision of development, interaction with students, business, political and community leaders of Chicago State. The University is honoring Chandrababu for being a pioneer of reforms and for bringing socio-economic development in AP by empowering farmers and unemployed women. Chandrababu Naidu is the first foreign political dignitary to receive this honour from the University.

Rythu Poru Bata

Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu staged a 22-day long State-wide Pada Yatra in Andhra Pradesh in an attempt to mount pressure on the Government to come to the aid of farmers who lost their crops due to dry spell. Chandrababu Naidu kicked off the pada yatra at Kothakota village in Anantapur district on November 2, 2011.

Vastunna Me Kosam

Chandrababu Naidu has staged a padayatra across the state from October 2, 2012 till January 26, 2013. The padayatra went on for 117 days where he covered over 2500 kms.

Stand on Telangana

Chandrababu Naidu maintains that Telangana and Andhra regions are equally important to him and hence he takes a neutral stand on the issue of formation of a separate Telangana state.

Global popularity

Chandrababu Naidu is popular outside India as well. He has a large number of followers in countries like United States and China. In 2015, Google Trends indicated that after India, China is the country from where most searches on Google were registered. China was followed by United States. Searches from New Jersey, Virginia, Texas, California and New York are the most searches from the United States.

Chandrababu Naidu along with BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan addressed public meetings at Madanapalli and Visakhapatnam.May 2, 2014

Polling Day

Speaking to media on the evening of polling day, Chandrababu Naidu said he is confident that the TDP-BJP alliance will fare well. He ridiculed that Congress party is out of picture in Seemandhra and Jai Samaikyandhra Party became unknown. Chandrababu faulted Governor ESL Narasimhan for not acting on reports of violence by YSR Congress Party workers. Chandrababu lashed out at YSRCP and alleged that it had resorted to distribution of fake notes, liquor in an attempt to lower the voter turnout. May 7, 2014

Narendra Modi spoke to Chandrababu Naidu on telephone and enquired about the polling patterns in Seemandhra. May 7, 2014

Chandrababu Naidu said the 2014 elections in Seemandhra are one-sided in favour of Telugu Desam. He alleged that the YSRCP tried to bring down the poll percentage but had failed. More polling would benefit the TD-BJP alliance, he said. Chandrababu also expressed confidence that the TD-BJP will form the next government in Andhra Pradesh. May 7, 2014

Lifestyle

Chandrababu Naidu is known for his discipline. He gives utmost care for his health and practices Yoga in the morning everyday. After his yoga session, Chandrababu Naidu goes through the newspapers and will have a simple breakfast containing organic fruits and milk.

Timeline

2012

November 28, 2012: Majority of the Telugu Desam Party leaders agreed with Chandrababu Naidu that he should not break his ‘Vastunna Mee Kosam’ padayatra to attend the Assembly session. The Government is planning to take up the bill on providing statutory status to the SC/ST sub plan.

2010

December 25, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu gets discharged from NIMS Hospital. Writes a letter to President Pratibha Patil seeking her intervention to help solve the problems of farmers in the state.

December 24, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu ends his hunger strike after national leaders from eight parties meet him and consoles him at NIMS.

December 23, 2010: All party meeting on the farmers’ problems fail. Chandrababu Naidu has been shifted to ICU at the Millenium block at NIMS Hospital.

December 22, 2010: Charababu Naidu’s hunger strike enters sixth day. He locks his door at NIMS hospital to not allow the doctors inside who tried to administer him saline forcibly.

December 21, 2010: Chandrababu’s indefinite hunger strike enters fifth day. His health condition worsens.

December 20, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu has forcibly hospitalized at the NIMS Hospital. A case under section 309 of IPC has been booked against him. TDP calls for a peaceful bandh in the state. Chandrababu continues his hunger strike on the fourth day at NIMS.

December 19, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu health deteriorates. His blood sugar levels drops to 61.

December 17, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu begins his hunger strike at the New MLA quarters in Hyderabad demanding the Government solve the rain-hit farmers problems immediately. Senior TDP MLAs also expressed their solidarity and sat with Naidu in the deeksha.

December 16, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu announces that he will go on an indefinite hunger strike on 17th demanding Government’s attention to farmers’ problems in the state.

December 15, 2010: Naidu meets CPI leaders AB Bardhan and Prakash Karat in Hyderabad. He condemns the hike in Petrol fuel and demands the Government to revoke the hike immediately.

December 14, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu gets suspended at the Andhra Pradesh assembly.

December 13, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu leads the TDP’s Dharna at Tank Bund in Hyderabad. TDP has demanded the Government to address problems faced by ryots immediately.

December 12, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu tours Khammam to console the farmers who lost their crops in the recent incessant rains.

December 11, 2010: Chandrababu leads the TDP’s MLAs in a ’Pada Yatra‘ from NTR Ghat to the Assembly. He vows to fight for the farmers’ problems in the state.

December 9, 2010: Chandrababu Naidu pays visit to bereaved family of Saidulu of Nalgonda who died after his crop got washed away in floods.
