Daggubati Purandeswari

Daggubati Purandeswari is a politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh. She joined the BJP before the 2014 elections. Prior to joining the BJP, Purandeswari served in the Indian National Congress party. She is a former Member of Parliament representing Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency. Purandeswari was also a former Union Minister of State for Commerce.

Family

Purandeswari is the daughter for Tollywood film legend and former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao. She married Daggubati Venkateswara Rao.

Quits Congress, Joins BJP

Purandeswari and her husband D Venkateswara Rao announced that they are quitting Congress party to join Bharatiya Janata Party. Purandeswari accused Congress of snubbing her and doing injustice to people of Seemandhra. She held a meeting with her followers in Visakhapatnam constituency. Mar 6, 2014

Purandeswari is BJP’s campaign committee convener in Seemandhra.

2014 Elections

Daggubati Purandeswari is contesting the Rajampet constituency in 2014 elections on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. Purandeswari initially wanted to contest Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat, but due to the alliance between BJP and TDP, she was forced to move to Rajampet. Speaking to media after filing her nomination from Rajampet, Purandeswari said she joined BJP unconditionally.
