Border Security Force

Border Security Force or BSF is one of the premier security forces in India. BSF co-ordianates with various other security units and the central intelligence on its activities.

On 30 November 2015, Tanushree Pareek became the first officer rank woman to be selected for the Border Security Force.

BSF Commemorative Stamp On July 1, 2009, Raman Srivastava is appointed new DG of BSF on July 1, 09. He took charge on August 1, 2009.

Major BSF deployements / activities

Securing the borders with Pakistan

BSF is instrumental for protecting India's international border line with Pakistan. BSF foiled an infiltration bid at Tent Post, Kancchak sub-sector of Jammu frontier while a militant is shot dead trying to infiltrate later from across the border in J&K under cover of Pakistani firing. BSF officers lodges protest with Pak Rangers over ceasefire violation and infiltration bids in Jammu. In April 09, BSF increased patrolling near the India-Pakistan border in Abohar, Punjab with the start of wheat harvesting. In June 09, an eleven-member delegation of the Pakistan Rangers met a team of BSF to discuss border management related issues.

Relationship with Bangladesh Rifles (BDR)

In August 08, Director Generals of BSF and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) have held joint review on issues of mutual concern frequently as a part of institutional mechanism set up in 1993. The recent such talks are held in Dhaka on August 20-25, 2008.

BSF Sports teams

BSF has a strong sports team. Many of BSF frequently take part and bring applause at National and International-level sporting meets. Its Jalandhar unit hockey team took part in the Surjit Silver Jubilee hockey tournament from October 18 - 25, 2008.

Pak releases last batch of Indian fishermen
