Girl hospitalized, accused handed over to police
A lover turned attacker when he turned violent and hurt his cousin Lavanya, a final year polytechnic student, near her T Rami Reddy College premises at Meerpet in LB Nagar on Thursday. She survived the attack with four deep cut wounds on her chest, abdomen, chin and hand in the assault that shocked the students and sparked protests from all quarters. She was rushed to a Corporate in Malakpet where the doctors undertaken a surgery and said that she was recuperating.
The accused, M Sudhakar Naik 22 years, was caught when he tried to flee. He was badly beaten up annd is later handed over to the police. According to reliable sources, Lavanya was walking along with her classmates around 8.30am when Naik followed them carrying a bag and came from behind, pulled Lavanya by her hand and took out the sickle scaring the other students. Naik hit her with the weapon repeatedly even as she tried to escape. Her cries alerted the college staff and students who rushed and overpowered him. While some of the students rushed her to the hospital, the others nabbed Naik.
The accused maintained that he only wanted to scare Lavanya and had no intention to kill her. He says he still wants to marry her. Naik, along the hunting sickle made at Santoshnagar. He also carried a chopper knife in his bag. The police registered a case of murder and began to investigation.
