Worlds dumbest thief caught hanging upside down after trapping shoelace

A burglar was caught hanging upside down against a window after his shoelace got trapped during a break-in.

London, Aug 23 : A burglar was caught hanging upside down against a window after his shoelace got trapped during a break-in.

John Pearce had got his foot caught after smashing his way through the glass.

When homeowner Paul Ives returned home from his work, he found the man, who had been suspended for more than an hour.

Pearce was finally freed when Ives called police and paramedics.

"The man must be the world's dumbest thief," the Telegraph quoted Ives, 44, as saying.

"He was hanging upside down. His body was inside the house and he was stuck in the window with his foot outside.

"The more he struggled, the more he got jammed. When I got home, he still had the hammer in his hand, which he had used to smash the main window and get some leverage.

"He was screaming to get him down and we were all saying : 'I don't think so,'" Ives added.

The burglar had a hammer in his hand and at first tried to deny he had been breaking in.

He told Ives that he had spotted someone else trying to raid the house and had decided to stop him.

However, the 32-year-old thief admitted burglary with intent to steal, when brought before Dartford magistrates in Kent.
