Sangeet Singh Som

Sangeet Singh Som is a businessman and politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is known for his involvement in the anti-beef protests in India. Sangeet Som is a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Sardhana constituency in Meerut.

Two FIRs have been lodged against Sangeet Som has his alleged involvment in the September 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. He also allegedly uploaded a video that sparked communal tension in the Muzaffarnagar region.

Al-Dua Food Processing Private Ltd

Sangeet Som founded Al-Dua Food Processing Private Ltd along with Moinuddin Qureshi and Yogesh Rawat in 2005. The company deals with processing and export of buffalo, sheep and goat meat and meat products. In 2008, he joined Al-Anam Agro-foods, another major meat exporter as additional director. His involvement in meet processing companies are in direct contrast to his anti-beef protests. In October 2015, when the Indian media has confronted Sangeet Som with these facts, he first tried to deny his involvement, but later said that at the time of him being appointment as director of the company, he was unaware of the company's involvement in beef processing. He said that his involvement was only limited in purchasing a plot in Aligarh. Sangeet Som said that he sold the land in 2008 which ended his involvement in the company. Moreover, when he joined politics in 2012, the BJP has investigated his background and has rejected all these allegations as they had no merit.

Sangeed Som said that he became the director of the company on 22 December 2005 and resigned from the post on 27 March 2008. The company has showed nil work for the years 2008, 2009 and 2010. The work began in 2011-12 after he exited from the company.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has left it to Som to explain on the controversy.
